AITB/C.C.C. meeting Notes:
September 24, 1998
Last Thursday (Sept 24) six CCC members (John Riley, John DeGolyer, Eric Chang, Max Koplevich,
Greg Kitch, and I [Jason Frand]) met with Archie Kleingartner and Marsha Smith (in her capacity as
AITB staff member) to discuss CCC and AITB relations.
Archie indicated he would like the CCC to be available to provide input and guidance to the AITB
on a broad array of campus issue regarding computing and related matters. He indicated the campus,
with AITB playing a central role, needs to sort out appropriate roles for OAC, OID, CTS, AIS, CDI,
and any others "campus groups" which are responsible for providing centralized computer and
information technology services. For example, the issues such as central vs. decentralized
services, coordinated decentralization, distribution of funds and responsibilities, are all on the
table. Archie feels the CCC, as the line managers throughout the UCLA responsible for the delivery
of such services, can play a critical role in working through these issues.
Through our discussion a model to foster the communications amongst AITB, ITPG, and CCC emerged,
specifically three overlapping circles, one each representing AITB, ITPG, and CCC. Representatives
from each group need to participate in each of the intersections. Al Solomon participates in the
intersection of AITB and ITPG. Currently we have four CCC members (Riley, Kopelevich, Masterson,
and Frand) participating in the intersection of ITPG and CCC. We agreed that a CCC member would be
invited to AITB meetings, and that Marsha would be invited to CCC meetings, thus providing the
intersection between CCC and AITB. (Marsha also happens to appear in the central intersection given
her unique role as half time for both AITB and OAC). This then completes the model for now.
So, at our October 15th meeting (Eric is chair) we need to select one of our member to be the
representative to the AITB. We should probably also elect an alternate.
We should also discuss any other governance issues regarding how we want CCC to be
organized.
